SASKATOON, CANADA - August 15, 2007 - Solido Design Automation today announced that Douglas Konkin has joined the company as Vice President of Product Development. Konkin, previously a Director of Software Development for fabless semiconductor company PMC-Sierra, will direct the development of Solido's transistor-level statistical design and verification software.
"Doug is a perfect addition to our senior management team," said Amit Gupta, Solido's cofounder and CEO. "Our technology is being proven daily in the marketplace, and we are close to formally launching our first product for global distribution. Doug's role is extremely important to our customers' success and we are confident of his capabilities. He brings a depth of knowledge and experience in leading both system software and IC hardware development teams, which will be instrumental in accelerating the delivery of our software to the analog/mixed-signal, custom digital and memory IC markets."
At PMC-Sierra for the past nine years, Konkin managed the Saskatoon design center and was responsible for Canadian software teams developing consumer networking products for advanced DSL and FTTH deployments based on PMC semiconductors, and directed the development of SONET/SDH, PDH and DSL ICs for the telecom market.
Prior to PMC-Sierra he was VP Technology for start-up HyperCore Technology, where he provided the technical and project management necessary to achieve the company's objective of bringing cell-switching technology to market. Konkin has also built and managed software development teams working on real-time auction and online brokerage systems, and SCADA systems for telecom and oil pipeline surveillance and monitoring.
Konkin received the M.Sc. degree in computer science from the University of Saskatchewan, and the B.Sc. degree in engineering physics from the Royal Military College in Ontario Canada. Between receiving his bachelor's and master's degrees he served as a signal officer in the Canadian Army. Solido Design Automation is his fourth startup.
