The Solido Experience

To work at Solido is to be part of one of the highest-caliber technology teams in Canada. Solido’s unique, flat organizational structure encourages fluid teams and fosters personal growth in a safe and nurturing work environment. Successes are celebrated together and challenges are overcome with mentoring and individual coaching from more experienced Solidians. Leadership is encouraged: if you see a problem, you will be empowered to fix it.

While we take our work seriously, we also understand that our best work is often done when not sitting at a desk. So it’s not unusual to find family members wandering our halls, homebaked goodies available to all, lunchtime board games, or ad hoc trips to local restaurants.

Solido’s relaxed atmosphere belies our drive for quality software and best-in-class customer support.

Technical Applications Specialist

At Solido, we consider this the hardest position to fill, because it requires you to be one of the most interesting people in technology: a person who can easily solve technical problems while being personable, passionate, and disciplined.

You should apply for this if you are a talented and dedicated individual who wants to be responsible for driving the technical success of Solido’s customers as they use our products.

Who you are

We love being surprised by our applicants, but we have high standards.  If you agree with the following statements, we want you on our team:

You are highly technical, but love working with people.

  • You have a degree or commensurate experience in computer science, electrical engineering, computer engineering, or similar technology-based field. You were very proud to show your marks to your mother.
  • You have a background in (or are rapidly learning) Unix/Linux.
  • You did more than just classes and tests while at school.

You believe that solving problems is more important than always knowing the right answer.

  • You can show examples of complex problem solving that involve research, technical investigation, and experimentation.
  • When faced with a new problem or unfamiliar domain, you ask insightful questions rather than letting yourself be constrained by the limits of your knowledge.

You work well with teams, but are confident and self-driven.

  • You can provide examples of team-based work where you were a leader and others where you were a follower.
  • You can demonstrate how you are driven to fill holes in your knowledge.
  • You have taken on projects driven by inspiration to make something or make something better.

You understand that communication is an art and a science.

  • You have worked on your communication by asking for mentoring and advice (or gracefully accepting it). People will say this about you.
  • You are comfortable speaking, writing, and presenting. You have outstanding examples of all three.
  • You enjoy telling stories and are good at it.

What you will look like at Solido

Solido expects that you will not be able to do this job on your first day — or even in the first few months — but that you will be rapidly trained while doing valuable work.

You are one of the most visible people at Solido: when people look for an expert in our domain, they will call you. You are a teacher, a trainer, a domain expert, and a friend. You will know more about how some of the largest companies in the world do their day-to-day work than many of the people working at those companies.

  • You actively manage the technical relationship between Solido and our customers.
  • You deliver training sessions and product demonstrations while getting to know our customers’ methods, structure, and people.
  • You work directly with technology experts at major semiconductor companies to understand, investigate, and help them solve key challenges.

You are incredibly disciplined in the face of competing tasks and too much information.

  • You correctly prioritize your work to balance customer needs and Solido’s success.
  • You track and speak with hundreds of designers, many different design groups, and many different companies in a month.

You are key to the growth of Solido.

  • You collaborate with Solido’s product, sales, and marketing teams to achieve your goals.
  • You may sometimes travel to customer sites, trade shows, or conferences as needed.

In addition to having the opportunity to work with some of the world’s leading technology companies, you will have an opportunity to learn more about the electronic design automation, semiconductor, and software industries.
